Leonardo DRS has rolled out a new 2 kVA AC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that is designed to supply reliable backup power to mission-critical systems working in extremely harsh shipboard conditions. This new device from the company power solutions range aims to keep operations uninterrupted during power outages, especially in naval and industrial settings that flourish on high performance.
At its heart, the UPS comprises features conducive to long-lasting operation. It uses an enclosure with a rating of IP54 which ensures that the system is protected against dust and water ingress. Not only that, it is also being engineered to comply with the most demanding military standards. The testing sequence for qualification to demonstrate its immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI), mechanical shock vibration salt fog, and fungal exposures has already started. Such performance attributes make this system a trustworthy tool for use in locations where conventional power supply has been known to fail.
“We designed this 2 kVA UPS to be a rugged, platform-ready building block for mission-critical loads operating outside controlled spaces,” said Cari Ossenfort, senior vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics business unit. “With IP54 protection, high-efficiency performance, and fully hardened reliability, it helps the U.S. Navy and its Sailors protect uptime and reduce program risk across naval, defense, and extreme applications.”

Our system aim to deliver uninterrupted clean and conditioned backup power to help keep sensitive electronic equipment running without any disruption even during power fluctuations or outages of onboard power systems. This is especially important for modern naval vessels that are highly dependent on electronic devices for which it would be very problematic if power delivery is not only stable but continuous and consistent.
Leonardo DRS has been one of the major suppliers of power conversion technologies to the U.S. Navy for submarine and surface ship programs. Introducing this tough UPS is a way of the company continuing with addressing the changing power needs of defense systems where the two most important features are the ability of the systems to work in the absence of external power and the ability of the systems to withstand various stresses and impacts.
Such UPS will help the armed forces who use naval vessels that are dependent on technology for carrying out their operations by being a highly reliable power source even under the most extreme conditions. They will also be able to use such a power source to greatly reduce any risks involved in their operations.
