Shield AI and Taiwan’s Thunder Tiger Corp. have entered into a memorandum of understanding whereby Shield AI’s autonomous Hivemind software will be embedded into Thunder Tiger’s full line of unmanned systems, beginning with unmanned surface vessels (USVs). Through the partnership, the purpose is to increase the autonomous defense capability of Taiwan through enabling its maritime and aerial systems to make decisions, operate, and conduct missions using artificial intelligence. During the first phase of the collaboration, Hivemind software will act as an AI pilot for Thunder Tiger’s USV, with a live demonstration expected later this summer. The collaboration will involve a phased testing process that will begin with simulation validation, moving on to hardware integration and operational tests.

“Hivemind has been integrated and proven across dozens of platforms and domains worldwide, and we are excited to see it on the water in Taiwan with Thunder Tiger, supporting the kind of cross-domain, multi-agent teaming that changes what unmanned systems can do in contested environments. Our partnership with Thunder Tiger is about getting Taiwan MND the asymmetric capabilities needed to deter conflict and is part of a broader strategy to support Taiwan,” said Brandon Tseng, co-founder of Shield AI and a former U.S. Navy SEAL. Thunder Tiger said integrating Hivemind will allow its platforms to independently execute complex missions while operating as part of intelligent coordinated fleets. The partnership also expands Shield AI’s growing presence in Taiwan, sustained autonomous defense technologies in collaboration with Taiwan’s defense industry.
