Nouryon is pleased to announce the launch of Perkadox® PM-60ST-GR, a novel organic peroxide technology created to enhance the quality and utility of recycled polypropylene, which is one of the most popular plastics in the world. As a unique product offering, Perkadox® PM-60ST-GR technology assists processors in recovering the performance properties of their degraded recycled polypropylene, thereby allowing them to incorporate more of this plastic into products and applications where previously only virgin plastic would do. Added during the extrusion stage of the recycling process, Perkadox rebuilds the polymer’s molecular structure to improve strength, consistency, and processing stability.

According to Nouryon, testing demonstrated that the solution can increase the material’s resistance to deformation when molten by up to ten times while also improving melt viscosity, giving manufacturers greater control during production. “Recycled plastic has enormous potential but performance limitations have kept it out of many applications where it could make the biggest difference,” said Alain Rynwalt, senior vice president for Performance Materials at Nouryon. “Perkadox changes what’s possible. For the first time, recyclers and processors have a practical tool to restore the performance of recycled polypropylene and get it into packaging, automotive and consumer goods that the industry has traditionally assumed needed unprocessed plastic. That’s a significant step forward for our customers.”
