Magnachip Expands Power Semiconductor Portfolio With Gen6 E6 super-junction MOSFETs

Magnachip Semiconductor Corporation has expanded its power semiconductor portfolio with 15 new sixth-generation (Gen6) E6 super-junction (SJ) MOSFETs designed for consumer and computing power applications. The new E6 series fulfills the increasing requirement of power efficiency, thermal management, switching noise management and small PCB designs due to increasing complexity and size constraints in consumer and computing applications. These MOSFETs help reduce switching loss and oscillations, besides offering margins against voltage transients and avalanche condition to reduce the thermal stress and switching noise.

During the evaluation process, Magnachip’s 600 V, 280 mΩ E6 MOSFET in the TO-220SFA package has performed about 5.3% better in terms of reducing the temperature compared to Magnachip’s previous generation MOSFET in the same test conditions in the PFC stage of the TV switch mode power supply at 100 Vac input. The E6 MOSFET series is available in 500 V and 600 V versions; the latter is available in DPAK, TO-220FA and TO-220SFA packages. “As power systems become more compact, designers need MOSFETs that help them manage heat and switching noise while meeting efficiency targets,” said Hyuk Woo, Chief Technology Officer of Magnachip Semiconductor. “We developed the E6 Series around these requirements for TV and computing power applications, offering customers performance and package options suited to their operating conditions.”
