Graco develops variable-ratio electric metering systems for 2-component materials

Graco Inc., the premier manufacturer of fluid handling equipment, introduces the Variable Ratio Electric Proportioning System. Currently available in a customizable version, the EVR system allows manufacturers to change ratios as they mix, measure and dispense two-component materials – with the same equipment.

“For many industrial manufacturers, refining certain material compositions means stopping production to change equipment or pumps,” said Robert Delgado, global strategy manager and product manager for eMobility in Graco’s Industrial Department. “This is particularly problematic for electric vehicle (EV) battery assembly and other applications where process requirements and technical specifications are subject to constant change.

When developing EVR technology, Graco also worked with many suppliers on the need to try different viscosity ratios and rates for development and research purposes, such as when design engineers define product specifications.

“Whether its thermal interface material, epoxy, silicone, urethane or acrylic, the application and requirements for two-component materials are constantly changing,” adds Delgado. “To adapt, manufacturers and suppliers make adjustments ‘on the fly’ with minimal reinvestment of capital. »

The high-flow Graco EVR system can move up to 6,400 cubic meters (ccs) per minute, while guaranteeing wide distribution ratios between 1:1 and 5:1 or 2:1 and 10:1.

When testing different types of materials, the basic purge functionality of the EVR system conserves the amount of solvent used to clean the system by independently isolating each material. It also prevents each material from being subjected to cleaning. Therefore, there is no need to replace a static or dynamic mixer because of fast-curing materials or intermittent production cycles.
