HD Hyundai and Siemens Partners to Drive Smart Shipbuilding

HD Hyundai has teamed up with Siemens. This partnership seeks to enhance digital transformation and modernize the U.S. shipbuilding industry. This partnership, steered by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aims to improve shipyard functions. It focuses on improving design accuracy and boosting production efficiency in American shipbuilding.

This alliance will combine the strengths of both companies. HD Hyundai brings global shipbuilding skills, while Siemens provides advanced industrial software. They aim to improve design quality and reduce production risks. They also seek to enhance efficiency and cut costs. This partnership aims to enhance innovation in a vital industry for U.S. maritime and defense.

The collaboration aims to improve digital ship design. It will automate important tasks like block assembly and installation. Also, it will enhance production, quality, and process management with AI-driven, data-backed solutions. The partners want to use these technologies to create smart, strong, and affordable ships.

HD Hyundai and Siemens are investing in training. They aim to create a new generation of skilled workers. HD Hyundai instructors will visit more than 30 Siemens training centers in the U.S. They will offer hands-on, practical training. The company is teaming up with leading schools, such as the University of Michigan and MIT. They aim to create customized courses in engineering, digital design, and process automation.

Since 2023, HD Hyundai and Siemens have been working together. They are creating a manufacturing innovation platform. This platform links all parts of ship production, from design to construction, in one digital ecosystem. This platform allows virtual simulation of design and production workflows. It helps cut down on trial and error. This way, you can boost performance and save on costs.

The new partnership boosts progress and prepares U.S. shipyards for digital change. It will improve quality, cut costs, and lower production risks, ensuring long-term competitiveness.

“Maximizing production efficiency through digital and automation technologies is key to the reconstruction of the U.S. shipbuilding industry,” said Moon Sangmin, Head of Global Strategy at HD Hyundai. “HD Hyundai’s accumulated shipbuilding technology and Siemens’ digital capabilities will contribute to creating new opportunities for the U.S. shipbuilding industry.”
