Kymeta begins delivering customer orders for its first flat-panel, multi-orbit, moving antenna for military users

The world’s leading flat panel satellite antenna company Kymeta announced at SATELLITE 2024 that the Osprey u8 HGL, a hybrid geosynchronous/low Earth orbit terminal (GEO/LEO/LTE) designed specifically for military users, is shipping from its facility in Woodinville, Washington. This marks the first commercially available multi-orbit terminal and the first multi-orbit terminal in the Eutelsat OneWeb LEO network. Kymeta announced the official launch in October last year and is delivering a backlog.’

In February, the Kymeta team demonstrated the capabilities of the new Osprey u8 HGL in the field, providing resilient, auto-PACE-ready communications for the military to meet the demands of challenging and rigorous military environments. The multi-orbit and multi-network capabilities of the Osprey u8 HGL terminal will offer even greater availability, with durability, low power consumption, low visibility and ease of use.

The Osprey u8 HGL includes a field-replaceable modem cartridge and a OneWeb modem to enable connectivity to the Eutelsat OneWeb LEO network. At launch, an iDirect 950mp cartridge is available, enabling TRANSEC services over GEO. Additional cartridge configurations will be available soon, enabling end users to customize the terminal configuration to suit their mission needs.

Initial feedback has been incredibly positive, with one military member stating, “This is everything we were looking for in a terminal: form, function and features. The switch from LEO to GEO has far exceeded our expectations. It’s amazing that Kymeta is already meeting the community’s urgent needs for multi-orbit SATCOM.”

Others present at the Army field demonstrations commented, “I can’t wait to get started!” and “Wow! It tracks satellites in very difficult terrain.”

“The Kymeta Osprey HGL has a unique capability to meet government requirements in support of government PACE plans,” said Ian Canning, chief operating officer at OneWeb Technologies. “Osprey supports multi-network/orbit requirements through simultaneous LTE/satellite configuration, with the benefit of also being able to add OneWeb LEO capabilities.”

Jon Osler, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Services at Kymeta, commented, “In the contemporary military landscape, mobile connectivity has become indispensable to achieving success. Unlike any other industry, the military relies heavily on reliable communications systems , adaptable and resilient to meet your operational and training needs while on the move. We are proud of our long-standing partnership with the military, providing cutting-edge solutions that meet and exceed expectations.”

This milestone further cements Kymeta’s position as a leader in the multi-X revolution. Attendees of SATELLITE 2024 in Washington, DC, March 18-20, are invited to visit Kymeta Meeting Room 156 to check out the Osprey u8 HGL in person and speak with a member of the Kymeta team.
