Adyen Innovates In-Person Payments with New Products

Adyen, the financial technology platform of choice for leading businesses, announced a major advancement in the in-person payments (IPP) landscape, underscoring its commitment to innovation with industry-defining solutions. This comprehensive update not only improves the payments experience for merchants and customers, but also solidifies Adyen’s position as a leader in payments technology.

“Adyen offers a leading in-person payment solution, with one of the broadest product portfolios in the market, from mobile to countertop, to meet every business need, all powered by our unique technology stack. This product update demonstrates our ambition in the unified commerce space,” said Derk Busser , Vice President of Products – Payment Channels at Adyen. “We see that our customers continue to value in-person touchpoints and we continue to differentiate ourselves in the payments industry to be the market leader in omnichannel solutions. We are committed to revolutionizing the way consumers of today and tomorrow experience the store.”

Unlimited marking possibilities with the SFO1 counter terminal

Today, Adyen is proud to unveil the SFO1, its own Android countertop multimedia terminal. Featuring an 8-inch touchscreen, the SFO1 enhances the payment experience by integrating the functions of traditional terminals with customer-facing displays. This innovation marks a new chapter in the transformation of the in-person payment experience.

“SFO1 will disrupt the way brands engage with customers at the point of purchase,” added Busser. “Rich video content allows fashion retailers to showcase the next season’s collection on beautiful displays while giving shoppers the opportunity to sign up for loyalty programs for discounts or early access to featured garments. We’re pushing the boundaries of innovation, ensuring retailers can deliver cutting-edge, customizable in-store checkout experiences.”

SFO1 enables businesses and platforms to maintain a consistent brand presence and dynamically engage customers by seamlessly integrating with their or partners’ point-of-sale (POS) systems, while reducing counter space and costs.

“We are excited to partner with Adyen on the SFO1 terminal integration,” said Amber Hovious , VP of Partnerships at Teamwork Commerce. “As a leader in point-of-sale and order management software, Teamwork Commerce knows the importance of delivering a best-in-class customer experience. The SFO1 device is a great way to create engaging customer experiences in-store while helping to streamline operations.”

OFS1 will be available in the United States and Europe by the end of 2024.

Klarna’s first global launch in stores and large-scale rollout of Alipay+.

Adyen is breaking new ground by becoming the first global PSP to launch Klarna in-store globally and to begin the global rollout of Alipay+ on its terminals. This move delivers on Adyen’s promise to merchants of unified commerce by providing a consistent payment experience both in-store and online. Given the growing popularity of buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) services – expected to reach $3.98 trillion by 20301  and the dominance of digital payment solutions such as Alipay+, Adyen’s integration enables merchants to reach a broader global audience. By enabling Klarna and Alipay+ in-store, Adyen is enabling retailers to meet the needs of Gen Z shoppers and international travelers, primarily from Asia, by giving them the flexibility to choose their preferred payment method, regardless of the shopping channel.
