Rocket Lab Successfully Launches Second Dedicated Mission for Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency

Rocket Lab Corporation has announced that it has completed its second dedicated mission for the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). This mission, named “Kakushin Rising”, is further testament to the collaboration between Rocket Lab and the official space agency of Japan, indicating the confidence in the Electron rocket system.

Advancement in Innovative Satellite Technology

The operation took place on Launch Complex 1 operated by Rocket Lab in New Zealand at 3:09 p.m. NZT. The eight satellites were launched via the Electron rocket by Rocket Lab for purposes of being used in the Innovative Satellite Technology Demonstration program carried out by JAXA. They include:

Educational small satellites (CubeSats).

An advanced ocean-monitoring satellite.

A demonstration platform for ultra-small multispectral camera technology.

An innovative deployable antenna utilizing “origami” folding techniques, engineered to unfurl to 25 times its original stowed size.

Building a Track Record of Reliability

“Kakushin Rising” comes after the successful launch of the RAISE-4 satellite in December 2025. This has seen Rocket Lab successfully test advanced technologies of aerospace engineering in Japan through its partnership with JAXA. Rocket Lab has proven once again the accuracy of the Electron rocket launcher by fulfilling the needs of the space mission.

“Successful launches, delivered to their respective locations within a few months of each other, demonstrates why Electron is the preferred small launcher for national space agencies. JAXA leads the world in space exploration, and it was an honor for Rocket Lab to work on both of these missions helping to grow Japan’s aerospace industry.”

A Full 2026 Launch Manifest

This is the 8th mission for Rocket Lab in 2026, and the 87th Electron rocket launch overall. The year is still filled with a busy manifest for Rocket Lab, with the upcoming launches focused on delivering commercial Earth observation satellites, technology demonstration satellites, and national security defense launches.
