Voyager Technologies and Geisinger Partner to Advance Space-Based Biomedical Research

Voyager Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Geisinger, one of the largest integrated health systems in the U.S., making the healthcare provider a partner in the Voyager Institute for Space, Technology and Advancement (VISTA). The collaboration expands VISTA’s presence in the life sciences and biopharma sectors by establishing a framework for joint research that leverages the unique conditions of microgravity to accelerate innovations in human health. The partnership will focus on exploring translational research in such fields as cancer treatments, disease treatments, drug production in space, remote monitoring of patients, telemedicine, the next generation of cybersecurity technologies for healthcare applications, multi-omics, biological effects of space travel, and clinical trials conducted using the microgravity environment.

There are also plans to apply for up to $1 million of funding from external sources. Geisinger will gain access to reserved research resources, tenant opportunities, payload development support through Starlab and other commercial space infrastructure, as well as collaboration within the broader VISTA ecosystem. “Signing a health system of Geisinger’s caliber is a defining moment for VISTA,” said John Baum, chief strategy and marketing officer, Voyager. “Microgravity enables research that simply isn’t possible on Earth, and that opens real doors for cancer treatment, therapies for diseases and next-gen treatments at a scale the biopharma and life sciences world is paying close attention to. Geisinger has the clinical depth and scientific rigor to carry that research all the way to patient care, and their decision to collaborate with VISTA is a signal to the entire industry.”
