onsemi has finalized its acquisition of the Silicon Carbide Junction Field-Effect Transistor (SiC JFET) technology portfolio, including the United Silicon Carbide subsidiary, from Qorvo for $115 million in cash. This strategic acquisition enhances onsemi’s robust EliteSiC power portfolio, positioning the company to meet growing demand for high energy efficiency and power density, particularly in AC-DC stages of power supply units for AI data centers.
SiC JFET technology also plays a critical role in advancing electric vehicle applications, improving efficiency and safety by replacing multiple components with a single solid-state switch based on SiC JFETs in battery disconnect units. In the industrial sector, SiC JFETs enable key energy storage configurations and support the development of solid-state circuit breakers.
