Hesai Technology, a leader in lidar solutions, has partnered with Grab. Grab will exclusively distribute Hesai’s lidar products in Southeast Asia. They will take care of sales, customer support, and marketing for Hesai’s lidar sensors in the region. This will greatly increase local access to advanced perception technology.
Hesai’s partnership with Grab lets them tap into Grab’s large regional reach and robust distribution network. This will help them quickly provide reliable, high-quality lidar sensors across Southeast Asia. This partnership wants to make lidar technology easier to access and use. It will help customers in areas like robotics, autonomous systems, and smart mobility solutions. Being the only distributor of Hesai in Southeast Asia, Grab will also be instrumental in maintaining a steady and reliable stock of lidar technology which will be used to support its own autonomous mobility and high, definition mapping projects.
“By expanding access to world-class lidar technology in Southeast Asia, Grab is doing more than improving our own autonomous mobility and mapping capabilities; we are providing the essential ‘eyes’ that allow robotics to ‘see’ and navigate safely, thus ensuring that 3D intelligence can be made accessible and scaled to every industry across our region,” says Anthony Tan, Group CEO and Co-founder of Grab.

David Li, CEO and Co-founder of Hesai, says, “Lidar is a core technology that enables robots to achieve autonomous perception and safer operations. The Southeast Asian market has shown strong demand across manufacturing, logistics, and service robots. Through our partnership with Grab, we will leverage our mature and reliable lidar technology with the needs of local markets, accelerating the deployment and large-scale lidar adoption for robotics applications.”
Lidar, or Light Detection and Ranging, is a precise remote sensing tool. It uses laser light to measure distance. This helps create detailed 3D models of the environment. Hesai leads the world in lidar technology. It holds the largest market share in automotive, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and autonomous mobility.
This partnership will enable both companies to move forward in developing and integrating Physical AI and embodied intelligence in Southeast Asia. Through the collaboration, Grab and Hesai hope to facilitate the development of intelligent machines that have the ability to go beyond digital intelligence and function effectively in the complex environment of Southeast Asia.
