PackageX Introduces On-Device OCR and Advanced AI Models for Shipping Label Scanning

PackageX, a leading innovator in inbound receiving and AI scanning logistics software, has announced a major advancement in its AI technology with the introduction of enhanced Shipping Label Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and on-device capabilities. This development promises to significantly boost workforce efficiency and streamline receiving processes across buildings, warehouses, and campuses.

Since its inception in 2018, PackageX has been at the forefront of AI scanning solutions tailored for logistics teams. The company’s latest breakthrough involves the training of its Shipping Label OCR system on over half a million shipping labels. This extensive training has resulted in a remarkable 14% improvement in data capture accuracy. This milestone underscores PackageX’s dedication to advancing AI technology and automating manual logistics tasks.

Key improvements include:

  • 96% accuracy in scanning shipping labels
  • Threefold increase in receiving speed at warehouses and mailrooms
  • Doubled efficiency for workforces handling shipments

Farrukh Mahboob, Founder and CEO of PackageX, commented, “Our Vision and AI team has worked diligently to develop our enhanced AI model. This advancement will be crucial in enhancing inbound receiving processes by speeding up data capture from shipping labels, increasing throughput in mailrooms and warehouses, and integrating key supply chain systems through digitized data.”

In conjunction with its upgraded cloud-based AI models, PackageX is also introducing a new on-device OCR capability. This feature allows for real-time scanning and data extraction of shipping labels directly on mobile devices. By removing the dependency on internet connectivity, this innovation ensures faster data processing, enhanced efficiency, and improved security.

Asim Darwaish, Head of AI & Data Science at PackageX, stated, “While large language models (LLMs) and general artificial intelligence (Gen AI) often make headlines, true innovation lies in creating small, specialized models for specific use cases. In the complex realm of logistics, where precision is crucial and errors are costly, large models are often inadequate. PackageX is leading the way by transitioning from cloud-based solutions to on-device models, facilitating real-time scanning and extraction of vital logistics attributes with unmatched speed and accuracy.”
