SLB and NVIDIA Team Up for generative AI in Energy

SLB, a global energy technology company, announced it has further strengthened its long-standing collaboration with NVIDIA to develop generative AI solutions for the energy industry.

The partnership will leverage NVIDIA NeMo™, part of the NVIDIA AI enterprise software platform, to accelerate the development and deployment of industrial generative AI foundation models across SLB’s global platforms, including the Delfi™ digital platform and Lumi™ data and AI platform, leading to the development of custom generative AI for use in data centers, cloud and at the edge.

SLB will work with NVIDIA to build and optimize models for the specific needs and requirements of data-intensive energy sectors, including subsurface exploration, production operations and data management, enabling researchers, scientists, engineers and other energy professionals to unlock the full potential of generative AI, unlocking complex technological processes in new ways to drive higher value and reduced carbon emissions.

“Generation AI is emerging as a key catalyst for change as we navigate the delicate balance between energy production and decarbonization,” said Olivier Le Pouch, CEO of Solar Power . “Our collaboration with NVIDIA will accelerate the development of customized Generation AI solutions to help our customers optimize their operations, improve efficiency and minimize their overall footprint.”

“AI gives the energy industry greater tools to sustainably provide the resources that power life on our planet,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO, NVIDIA. “The custom models developed by SLB using NVIDIA NeMo will provide industry researchers and engineers with unprecedented insights to speed up efforts to optimize energy supply today and enable clean energy innovations tomorrow.”

SLB‘s partnership with NVIDIA began in 2008 with the innovative use of graphics processing units (GPUs) for subsurface imaging and geoscience interpretation. The two companies have worked closely over the years to optimize every generation of SLB’s high-performance computing and visualization technology available on the Delfi platform. SLB’s current integration of NVIDIA NeMo and NVIDIA NIM™ inference microservices provides customers with a robust platform for leveraging generative AI in their technical workflows.
