NUBURU expands Defense & Security platform with Laser Arm initiative targeting

NUBURU, the creator of the next-generation integrated dual-use Defense & Security platform focusing on non-kinetic effects and directed energy technologies, defense electronic warfare and mobility programs, software-orchestrated defense systems and advanced manufacturing, announced the signing of a preliminary binding agreement (the “Agreement”) with SunCubes Srl, an Italian developer of wireless laser power delivery, beam steering, targeting, tracking and security technologies.

The Agreement was signed by NUBURU, Inc., with NUBURU intending to implement the definitive investment and industrial collaboration through Lyocon Srl (“Lyocon”), its Italian laser engineering and manufacturing subsidiary, as NUBURU’s designated group entity. The structure reflects the transaction’s fundamental operational logic: the alliance is laser-focused, and Lyocon will serve as the NUBURU group’s laser manufacturing facility and center of excellence in photonics.

Pursuant to this Agreement, NUBURU intends to make, directly or through Lyocon as a designated entity of the NUBURU Group, a multi-stage strategic investment of up to €1.0 million in SunCubes. The investment is structured as upfront payments in anticipation of a future capital increase of SunCubes and consists of an initial down payment of €250,000 upon execution of the definitive agreement and an additional down payment of €750,000 following receipt of applicable Golden Power and export control authorizations. It is expected that the down payments will be converted into share capital of SunCubes through a reserved capital increase, subject to the conditions set forth in the definitive agreements.

The planned alliance, led by Lyocon, is designed to create a new Laser Arm capability within NUBURU’s Defense & Security platform. The company’s goal is to integrate Lyocon’s laser source technologies, laser manufacturing, and photonics integration capabilities with SunCubes’ beam steering, tracking, and optical power transmission technologies.

Through this strategic partnership with SunCubes, Nuburu is set to unveil a multi-layered suite of laser-based innovations tailored for the drone and counter-UAV industries. The collaboration will expand the company’s non-lethal defense ecosystem by developing a lightweight, portable laser interception system for rifles and drone platforms, along with a high-power, vehicle-mounted laser arm for longer-range missions. Beyond tactical defense, the partnership introduces cutting-edge laser power delivery applications, including in-air drone charging technology designed to enable continuous flight operations for long-duration missions, and a remote wireless charging system for surveillance equipment in off-grid critical infrastructure and forward military positions. Additionally, the joint initiative will deliver a highly resilient laser-based communications system capable of securing real-time, high-capacity data transmission directly from the field. These combined capabilities position Nuburu to create a comprehensive, laser-based ecosystem that includes anti-UAV defense, tactical deterrence, long-range power transmission, advanced surveillance, critical asset protection, and secure data communications.

Management Comments

Alessandro Zamboni, Executive Chairman and Co-CEO of NUBURU , said:

“The strategic value of this initiative goes far beyond the planned investment. Our goal is to strengthen Lyocon’s role as the NUBURU Group’s laser facility and create a differentiated Laser Arm capability capable of meeting some of the key requirements emerging from the defense, security, and critical infrastructure sectors.”

“Counter-drone systems, directed energy technologies, and non-kinetic defense capabilities are rapidly moving from research programs to procurement priorities. Through Lyocon and our broader Defense & Security platform, we believe NUBURU is developing a unique combination of laser manufacturing, photonic integration, defense mobility, electronic warfare, and software-enabled mission capabilities that can create significant long-term value.”

Paola Zanzola, Executive Director of Lyocon , said:

“Lyocon was acquired to provide NUBURU with a scalable industrial laser platform. This move could further expand that role by integrating our laser source expertise with SunCubes’ beam control, tracking, and safety technologies to support next-generation directed energy applications.”

“Our goal is to move from laser modules to integrated systems. The Laser Arm initiative provides Lyocon with a clear path to become a key industrial driver for NUBURU’s dual-use laser and defense roadmap.”

Alberto Chiozzi, founder and CEO of SunCubes , said:

“SunCubes focuses on optical power control over distance, including laser-based wireless power transmission, pointing and tracking, safety logic, and optical power management. We believe the combination of SunCubes’ beam control and wireless power transmission technologies with Lyocon’s laser manufacturing capabilities will create exciting opportunities in the defense, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors.”

Dario Barisoni, Co-CEO of NUBURU, CEO of Nuburu Defense and President of Lyocon , has declared:

“Modern defense customers increasingly require layered, mobile, and cost-effective solutions to counter UAS. The Laser Arm initiative supports NUBURU’s strategy to integrate photonics, mobility, electronic warfare, and mission software into a single, scalable defense platform for allied markets.”
