Volvo Unveils New Electric Trucks for Zero-Emission Logistics with 700 km Range

Volvo Trucks, a global pioneer in green transport, has three new electric heavy-duty trucks to present to the public – the FH Aero Electric with extended range and a new generation of heavy-duty trucks – the FH, FM, and FMX Electric. These three creations will significantly enlarge the operational area of electric freight, thus making it economically feasible even for long-distance haulage and complex specialized transport.

The main focus of this news is the FH Aero Electric with extended range that can get up to 700 km from one single battery charge. This major advancement is related to the use of the new e-axle which combines the electric motors and the 6-speed gearbox in the rear axle, thus allowing great freeing of the chassis space for increased battery capacity. It is a high productivity vehicle with the ability to be connected to the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) that enables a 20% to 80% charge in 50 minutes, which perfectly matches the driver rest hours in the European Union.

“We’re really sharpening our offering here. We are broadening it and making electric solutions possible for an even wider range of transport assignments, and also adding a cutting‑edge electric truck with a range of up to 700 km. This means we can fully match the business needs of our customers. It has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones,” says Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks. “We stand firm in our belief that electric vehicles will deliver a large part of the world’s truck transport in the future. With the amazing performance of all our new trucks, it’s easy to see why.”

Versatility Uncompromised: Future Generation FH, FM, and FMX

Apart from its long-distance capability, the new generation heavy duty trucks from Volvo such as the FH, FM, and FMX Electric now comes with enhanced range that has been increased to 470 km. These trucks have a versatile new drivetrain built to tackle challenging tasks such as construction, refuse collection, and regional delivery.

One of the technological breakthroughs is the new gearbox power take-off (PTO). This makes it possible for the drivers to run additional equipment such as concrete mixers, hook lift, and cranes directly from the drivetrain. They will take about 65 minutes to achieve an 80% charge through the 350 kW CCS charger.

“This long-haul electric truck is the best in the industry. It offers an outstanding range in combination with high payload, fast charging and great riding comfort. With this truck, our customers can drive the really long distances and throughout an entire working day with the same productivity as diesel trucks,” says Roger Alm.

Seamless Performance and Driver Comfort

Across the entire new lineup, Volvo has prioritized driver experience and mechanical refinement. Every model is equipped with a transmission optimized for electric torque, utilizing dual motors and new powershift gearboxes (eight-speed for FH/FM/FMX and six-speed for FH Aero). These systems provide smoother acceleration, reduced noise levels, and minimized vibrations, creating a more refined and less fatiguing workplace for drivers.

“The next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric are packed with new, smart functions, they offer great driver comfort and make zero tailpipe emissions transport available for very wide range of transport assignments,” says Roger Alm.

The new electric truck range will begin rolling out to global markets in phases throughout 2026, reinforcing Volvo’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 through a combination of battery-electric, fuel-cell, and renewable fuel technologies.
