This designation means that the company’s innovative robot motion planning and control software, RapidPlan , can be used at BMW Group to improve the speed and efficiency of programming, using and controlling industrial robots. With the software’s ability to assist in the easy visualization, prioritization and simulation of robot path plans, it can accelerate the implementation of industrial automation in a number of ways.

Realtime Robotics RapidPlan assisted in the process improvement of three-dimensional computer tomography scanning of automobiles, which is used to perform quality assurance of various connections. The cell was designed to use robots to scan vehicles to identify any problems. However, this was a time-consuming process, even for a single vehicle. The robots used for this had to be programmed with the exact geography of the vehicles they were used to scan. This was all the more difficult as each vehicle model is different, meaning there was limited reuse of the robot programming.

Realtime Robotics’ technology improved the programming of the robots on this mission. By autonomously generating and choreographing all robot movements and ensuring collision-free deployment, the team immediately understood which scan points were easy to reach and which required direct attention.
With RapidPlan, the efficiency of the scanning operation can be improved, the robot movements can be automated and the scan points can be optimized. This allows technicians to focus on tuning and validating the remaining hard-to-reach areas instead of wasting time checking and validating all points.
