Joby Aviation Partners with Flexcompute’s Flow360 for Next-Gen Aircraft Design

Flexcompute, a pioneer in GPU-native high-performance simulation technology, announced during the 2025 Paris Air Show that Joby Aviation will leverage its advanced solver, Flow360, to accelerate the development of its next-generation electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Recognized for its vertical integration across design, manufacturing, certification, and real-world flight testing, Joby Aviation continues to set the standard in the eVTOL industry—especially in the critical area of noise reduction. This expanded collaboration with Flexcompute will further Joby’s mission by enabling faster, more accurate aerodynamic and aeroacoustic simulations, empowering the company to design quieter, more efficient aircraft for urban air mobility.

“Flow360 is reshaping how we think about the depth of analysis throughout the design process. With faster execution, seamless integration, reliable accuracy, and scalable computing power, we can spend less time managing tools and more time solving the real physics challenges,” said Gregor Veble Mikić, Chief Aerodynamicist at Joby Aviation.

Flow360’s GPU-native architecture dramatically reduces simulation runtimes—cutting processes that once took days or weeks down to mere hours or even minutes. This performance breakthrough is essential during iterative design phases, where rapid, data-driven decision-making can significantly impact innovation and time to market.

Key Benefits Flow360 Brings to Joby Aviation:

  • Accelerated Conceptual Design: Rapidly evaluate and refine ideas, enabling more design iterations with increased confidence.

  • Comprehensive Aero Database Development: Generate high-accuracy aerodynamic models across expansive flight envelopes, minimizing costly design cycle revisions.

  • High-Speed Aeroacoustic Simulation: Evaluate propeller noise in hours instead of days, supporting Joby’s industry leadership in noise reduction.

  • Multiphysics Expansion: Go beyond aerodynamics to simulate complex interactions across thermal, structural, and other domains, enabling next-gen aircraft design optimization.

“At Flexcompute, we’re proud to support that leadership. With Flow360, we enable Joby to run high-fidelity simulations to accelerate the optimization of aerodynamics and acoustics across a wide flight envelope. This partnership reflects our shared belief: that faster, quieter, and safer urban air mobility isn’t a distant future, it’s within reach,” said Vera Yang, President of Flexcompute.
