Fortrea and Omico Partner to Accelerate Global Precision Oncology Research and Trial

Fortrea, the world’s best contract research organization (CRO), and Omico, Australia’s foremost network for precision oncology screening and trial matching, have joined hands for a strategic partnership focused on advancing research in precision cancer. This partnership is intended to facilitate the connection of oncology patients to biomarker-based clinical trials by leveraging Omico’s robust network within Australia and Fortrea’s expertise worldwide.

This partnership is expected to result in efficient study planning and better site and patient recruitment.

Expanding Precision Medicine Capabilities in Australia

Australia has established itself as a critical hub for both early- and late-phase clinical research. Under the new initiative, Omico will support Fortrea‘s sponsor clients by providing actionable patient population insights, advanced genomic profiling, real-world oncology data, and direct patient referral pathways across the country.

The partnership integrates Fortrea’s clinical trial execution platform with Omico’s Precision Oncology Screening Platform Enabling Clinical Trials (PrOSPeCT) initiative-the largest cancer genomics program in Australia. Designed to deliver comprehensive molecular profiling, PrOSPeCT systematically connects cancer patients to targeted therapies and matching biomarker-driven clinical trials.

Currently, Omico’s national precision oncology ecosystem encompasses a clinico-genomic database of over 23,000 consented patients and receives referrals from more than 1,600 clinicians across Australia.

“Our collaboration with Omico is about seeking to reach the right patient for the right study as quickly as possible,” said Oren Cohen, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Fortrea. “Modern oncology development demands ever-greater precision to match specific cancers with the therapies most likely to benefit patients, and to do so as quickly as possible. Our work with Omico accelerates our ability to identify the right patients for biomarker-driven studies in Australia and help advance precision medicine for people with cancer.”

“Australia is well positioned to support global biomarker-driven clinical trials, through Omico’s established national precision oncology research infrastructure, expertise and networks,” said Professor David Thomas, Chief Science and Strategy Officer at Omico. “By combining our national data and trial matching capabilities with Fortrea’s global clinical development expertise, we can help international sponsors identify relevant patient populations, plan trials more effectively and support targeted recruitment.”

Meeting the Demands of Modern Oncology Drug Development

As global pharmaceutical development increasingly pivots toward targeted therapies and biomarker-driven protocols, identifying specific patient sub-populations efficiently remains a central bottleneck. Fortrea brings thousands of operational clinical professionals and a dedicated medical team of more than 50 oncology physicians to address this challenge.

By unifying Omico’s national clinico-genomic infrastructure with Fortrea’s global CRO reach, the collaboration aims to reduce study startup timelines, improve trial recruitment precision, and expand opportunities for Australian patients to participate in targeted oncology research.
