Scania has finalized a long-term strategic supply agreement with Italian equipment manufacturer Prinoth, a subsidiary of the High Technology Industries (HTI) Group. The deal solidifies the integration of Scania’s advanced industrial battery technology across Prinoth’s zero-emission snow groomer portfolio, expanding on a multi-year technical collaboration in sub-zero operational environments.
Under the terms of the agreement, Scania will supply its high-performance Core 800 battery systems to power both the established Husky E-Motion and the newly unveiled, heavy-duty Leitwolf E-Motion snow groomers.
Engineering Resilience for Extreme Alpine Workloads
Operating on steep alpine gradients and in freezing sub-zero conditions requires rugged power delivery and continuous thermal management. Scania’s Core 800 lithium-ion battery modules were selected specifically to withstand these environmental challenges, offering high power output, structural vibration resistance, and cold-weather durability developed through years of industrial off-road engineering.

Engineered specifically for demanding off-highway environments, the Scania Core 800 industrial battery platform delivers a robust 97 kWh of installed energy per individual pack. Built with a highly adaptable modular architecture, the system offers extreme installation flexibility, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to scale total system capacity from a compact 21 kWh setup all the way up to a high-capacity 624 kWh configuration depending on operational workload requirements. To maintain optimal performance, longevity, and structural safety under severe operating conditions, the battery pack integrates an active liquid cooling circuit alongside Scania’s proprietary Battery Management System (BMS), which features multi-layer thermal propagation safeguards to protect critical power electronics against extreme cold, intense vibrations, and heavy thermal stress.
The modular design of the Core 800 system allows flexible positioning and scaling across different vehicle architectures. On the larger Leitwolf E-Motion, Scania’s battery units are installed in customized top and side orientations to satisfy elevated torque and energy demands required for moving heavy snow volumes over extended operating shifts.
“Collaborating with Prinoth is an exciting challenge for us, as it involves deploying our battery technology in extremely demanding conditions. Snow groomers operate in very low temperatures and steep terrain, moving heavy volumes of snow. This requires batteries that can deliver high power, withstand cold climates, and handle vibrations. We are proud that our technology has been recognised through this long-term agreement,” says Elin Åkerström, Managing Director, Scania Industrial Batteries.
“At Prinoth, we have chosen to continue our collaboration with Scania because of the high quality of their battery systems, which we have tested in some of the most challenging environmental conditions. Scania’s team has contributed deep technical expertise and a strong commitment to meeting our needs, while working together with us to continuously improve our products,” says Roberto Pegoraro, Head of R&D Snow Groomers.
Track Record and Fleet Expansion
The long-term agreement builds upon a joint development effort that originated with the 2022 introduction of the Husky E-Motion-the world’s first market-ready fully electric snow groomer. Since 2023, the Husky E-Motion has utilized Scania’s Core 800 battery architecture in active commercial service across resorts in Norway, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
• Husky E-Motion: Compact electric groomer powered by Scania Core 800 batteries since 2023.
• Leitwolf E-Motion: Heavy-duty electric groomer featuring multi-pack, high-power Scania Core 800 configurations.
• Global Deployment: Active winter operations across North America and European alpine regions.
The success of the Husky platform laid the foundation for extending the powertrain architecture to Prinoth’s heavy-duty Leitwolf E-Motion, scaling zero-emission capabilities across demanding grooming tasks.
Expanding Industrial Electrification Leadership
For Scania, the partnership demonstrates the versatility of its proprietary industrial electrification stack. Beyond winter maintenance, Scania’s battery platforms are currently deployed across heavy-industry sectors, including mining machinery, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, logistics vehicles, airport ground support equipment (GSE), and stationary energy storage systems (BESS). The long-term alliance with Prinoth underscores Scania’s growing role as a primary tier-one supplier of sustainable power solutions for severe-duty industrial applications.
