Microchip Technology Announced Acquisition of Hailo to Enhance Chips for Edge AI and Robotics Solutions

Microchip Technology Incorporated has officially finalized its acquisition of Hailo, an innovator in accelerated edge artificial intelligence (AI) processors, vision processing, robotics computing, and specialized AI software frameworks.

The strategic buyout reinforces Microchip’s roadmap to engineer intelligent, interconnected edge networks while extending its capacity to deliver end-to-end hardware and software architectures for Edge AI, machine vision, autonomous robotics, and Physical AI ecosystems. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the transaction is expected to have no material impact on Microchip’s financial results.

Streamlining Embedded Deployment from Prototype to Production

As artificial intelligence shifts rapidly from experimental sandbox testing into enterprise-scale commercial deployment, embedded systems developers require unified solutions that integrate hardware-based AI acceleration, low-power processing, secure connectivity, energy efficiency, and long-term lifecycle support. By pairing Microchip’s broad embedded control portfolio with Hailo’s high-performance AI and vision computing architectures, the combined enterprise aims to significantly shorten cycle times from initial prototype design to mass production.

The addition of Hailo’s technology lineup enriches Microchip’s Edge AI stack with proven hardware accelerators and vision processors built to handle complex computer vision tasks, transformer models, multimodal algorithms, and real-time video analytics. The unified portfolio will enable engineering teams to build intelligent systems spanning low-power, small-form-factor cameras to high-throughput autonomous industrial machinery.

“AI is becoming a foundational capability across embedded systems, from industrial automation and robotics to intelligent transportation, smart infrastructure and advanced vision applications,” said Steve Sanghi, Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Board of Microchip Technology. “Hailo strengthens our ability to deliver complete, production-ready platforms that enable customers to deploy intelligent systems at scale. This acquisition expands our product offerings in one of the most important technology transitions in the embedded industry.”

“The completion of this acquisition is an important enhancement to Microchip’s Edge AI strategy,” said Mark Reiten, Senior Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s Intelligent Compute Business Unit. “Hailo brings industry-leading edge AI acceleration, vision processing expertise and a vibrant developer ecosystem. Combined with Microchip’s embedded processing, FPGA, connectivity, security, analog and power solutions, we can deliver a broader and more complete platform for customers building intelligent edge systems.”

“Joining Microchip opens exciting opportunities for our customers, partners and developer community,” said Orr Danon, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hailo. “Microchip’s global reach, customer relationships and embedded systems expertise provide a powerful platform for expanding access to advanced Edge AI and vision technologies. As part of Microchip, we are well positioned to accelerate innovation and help customers bring intelligent systems to market faster.”

Expanding Ecosystem Support and Global Market Reach

As a result of this deal, Microchip acquires an established worldwide community of over 100 commercial customers, more than 10,000 developers and extensive involvement within the open source community and AI development platforms.

In the future, Microchip intends to invest extensively in the already established product line of Hailo, as well as their software development kit and customer interactions. Customers, both current and prospective, will benefit from Microchip’s extensive global sales network, field support team and wide portfolio of semiconductors for easier implementation of AI in edge applications.
