Blykalla and Microsoft Advance AI-Powered Licensing for Advanced Nuclear Reactor

Swedish advanced nuclear technology pioneer Blykalla has entered into a strategic collaboration with Microsoft to leverage cloud-native artificial intelligence tools to modernize and expedite the regulatory licensing lifecycle for its proprietary lead-cooled small modular reactor (SMR), SEALER. By integrating Azure OpenAI Service and Microsoft’s enterprise cloud platform into its regulatory operations, Blykalla is constructing an AI-assisted engineering and compliance management system designed to process complex technical documentation, safety assessments, and nuclear regulatory frameworks automatically. This strategic alignment addresses one of the most persistent bottlenecks in clean energy deployment multi-year manual regulatory reviews by utilizing agentic AI for automated data retrieval, continuous auditability, and safety verification, all while maintaining rigorous international compliance standards.

Beyond streamlining nuclear governance, the partnership highlights how global technology leaders are leveraging advanced software ecosystems to secure scalable, carbon-free baseload energy to meet the soaring power consumption demands of next-generation AI data center infrastructure. By deploying Microsoft’s enterprise technology stack, Blykalla establishes a high-efficiency model for the global clean energy market, demonstrating how modern AI governance tools can directly collapse administrative timelines and bring advanced SMR reactors to commercial readiness faster. “AI is driving the demand for new nuclear,” said Jon Christensen, Head of AI at Blykalla. “It can also help deliver it faster. Together with Microsoft, we aim to take licensing documentation from years to months, cutting time and resources by 90% while keeping the rigor regulators expect. Blykalla is embracing AI across the company as a critical lever to make the nuclear renaissance happen at speed.”
