TerraPay has announced a strategic partnership with Alipay+, the unified cross-border digital payment and marketing solution developed by Ant International. The collaboration introduces cross-border QR code payment capabilities for digital wallets, expanding global payment interoperability across key growth markets in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
During the initial phase of the rollout, 15 digital wallet platforms operating across Africa-integrated via TerraPay’s wallet interoperability network, Xend-will gain direct payment access to more than 150 million merchants across Alipay+’s global acceptance footprint. The integration broadens TerraPay’s cross-border value proposition, transitioning its capabilities beyond account-to-account transfers to encompass global point-of-sale and in-store merchant acceptance.
Unlocking Localized In-Store Payments for International Travelers
International travelers often encounter friction when executing cross-border transactions. While consumers rely heavily on native digital wallets within their home markets, international travel frequently forces a return to physical cash, currency exchange kiosks, and unfamiliar, high-fee payment rails.
Through TerraPay’s Xend network, participating digital wallet providers starting in Africa can enable users to pay directly within the Alipay+ global merchant ecosystem. End users can execute in-store transactions simply by scanning an Alipay+-enabled QR code using their existing, trusted home wallet app.

“The home wallet on your phone, that is from Kenya or Colombia or any country, should work the same way in Singapore or China or anywhere in the world, as easily as it does at home,” said Ambar Sur, Founder and CEO, TerraPay. “That’s the promise of Xend. This partnership with Alipay+ is a major step toward making cross-border wallet payments as natural as paying locally.”
Empowering the Mobile-First Digital Economy
As digital wallets mature into the primary account for daily financial transactions, consumer demand for cross-border usability has escalated. While domestic wallet providers have successfully built loyal user bases, scale, and local settlement rails, enabling international merchant acceptance has historically required complex, corridor-by-corridor integrations.
The integration between Xend and Alipay+ solves this fragmentation through a single API connection. Digital wallet operators can now grant their customer base international purchasing power without requiring users to download new applications, purchase foreign exchange, or rely on traditional payment cards. Currently, Alipay+ connects over 50 international payment partners to more than 150 million merchants across 220 destination markets, integrating with over 10 national payment systems worldwide.
“By bringing TerraPay’s network of wallets to Alipay+, we’re helping more people and businesses connect across borders, creating new pathways for growth, and unlocking new opportunities,” said Edward Yue, General Manager of Alipay+ Global Power Center, Ant International. “This reflects our joint commitment towards a more connected and inclusive global commerce ecosystem.”
Expanding the Global Commerce Infrastructure
Ant International provides digital payment solutions, digitization tools, and financial technology platforms designed to help financial institutions and merchants achieve inclusive commercial growth. Its Alipay+ unified wallet gateway connects global merchants with mobile-first consumers through streamlined cross-border payment rails.
By unifying TerraPay’s Xend network with Alipay+’s merchant footprint, both organizations are advancing a more inclusive, interconnected global payment ecosystem that simplifies international spending for consumers and merchant partners alike.
