TIER IV has announced that it will be participating as a technology partner in an initiative spearheaded by the Japanese Ministry of Defense to accelerate the development of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in security operations at the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) facilities. This will help in increasing efficiency in monitoring operations while reducing operational burdens through the development of UGVs to carry out patrolling operations at the defense facilities. As part of this program, TIER IV will be providing its autonomous driving technologies, integrating them with sensor technologies, and providing technical support for the operations of the UGVs.

The program will be implemented by conducting a proof of concept with two UGVs at the JGSDF Camp Asaka, which is located in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and testing its performance, safety, and monitoring capabilities, as well as its operational feasibility. The program is expected to be implemented until March 2027, with the aim of promoting the operational efficiency of UGVs at the JGSDF sites across the country. The program seeks to apply AI technologies for autonomous driving to enhance monitoring capabilities and operational efficiency, with the aim of potentially minimizing manpower requirements.
