IonQ & Einride Partner on Quantum Supply Chain, Logistics

IonQ and Einride will collaborate to develop quantum solutions for fleet routing, logistics optimization, and supply chain solutions

IonQ, a trailblazer in commercial quantum computing and networking, has announced a strategic investment partnership with Einride, a global leader in sustainable freight mobility. The collaboration aims to explore the transformative potential of quantum computing in solving complex challenges in fleet optimization and logistics management.

By leveraging IonQ’s cutting-edge quantum technologies and Einride’s expertise in electric and autonomous freight systems, the two companies will co-develop advanced quantum applications designed to tackle large-scale routing and scheduling problems—areas where classical computing continues to fall short.

“Einride shares our belief that quantum computing will fundamentally reshape and improve how large industries such as transportation and logistics operate,” said Niccolo de Masi, CEO of IonQ. “This partnership is aimed at creating a powerful platform with unique insights into real-world quantum advantage in a sizable market. Our investment and collaboration with Einride reinforces our commitment to building a quantum-ready economy across Europe.”

As Einride continues its global expansion of autonomous and electric freight fleets, managing routing and operational logistics becomes increasingly complex. Traditional computational methods often struggle to keep pace with this growing scale and intricacy. Quantum computing offers a promising path forward—enabling smarter, faster, and more cost-effective solutions to modern logistics challenges.

“At Einride, we are committed to transforming freight mobility, and we see quantum computing as a key enabler of that vision,” said Robert Falck, Founder and CEO of Einride. “Through our work with IonQ, we are laying the foundation for a future where logistics networks are smarter, cleaner, and far more efficient for customers around the world.”

This latest collaboration builds on IonQ’s expanding portfolio of quantum applications, including joint projects with Airbus on cargo loading optimization and with Thompson Machinery on predictive maintenance. It also signals the company’s growing presence in Europe—following the launch of a quantum application development center in Sweden in partnership with AstraZeneca, and the establishment of IonQ’s first European Innovation Center at QuantumBasel in Switzerland. Earlier this year, IonQ acquired ID Quantique (IDQ), a quantum technology firm based in Switzerland.

Beyond Europe, IonQ continues to extend its global reach through agreements with industry leaders such as Intellian in South Korea, and Toyota Tsusho and AIST’s G-QuAT initiative in Japan. With data centers now operational in Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Basel, Switzerland, IonQ has solidified its global infrastructure to support quantum development at scale.
