AIT Worldwide Logistics, a global leader in supply chain solutions, announced that it has acquired Mach II Shipping. Mach II Shipping is a UK freight forwarder specializing in the global distribution of pharmaceuticals and related products. The acquisition also includes a global network of life science partners and a subsidiary in the Netherlands.
The company being acquired (commonly known as Mach2 or Pharmafreight) is known for its high-quality transportation solutions, including clinical trials, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), formulation machinery, and programs for transporting finished products. said Chris Amberg, executive vice president of life sciences at AIT.
“Mach2 offers temperature-controlled air cargo as well as superior dedicated roadside assistance throughout Europe for high-value life science cargo. “We use climate-controlled vehicles operated by independent contractors with good distribution practices,” Amberg said. “Furthermore, Mach2 offers value-added services such as in-house customs clearance and temperature-controlled warehousing in Ashford, Middlesex, close to London Heathrow Airport.”
We offer the same services as our Ashford location at our second office in the Netherlands. The office was opened in 2019 as a response to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. Post-Brexit, customers needing an alternative to the UK can avoid Brexit-related customs and regulatory challenges by using our offices in Nieuw Fenep, located just minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. You can still receive the same high-quality service as before. The Dutch facility also has ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers that allow cancer treatment products to be stored safely and reliably at temperatures below -60°C.

The acquisition also includes Pharmafreight’s global partner network in Mach2. Founded in 2000, the network has grown over the past 20 years under the leadership of Mach 2 Shipping Commercial Director Andy Hughes. As a result of careful membership recruitment and membership screening, Pharmafreight now has leading independent companies that have been tested and approved under Good Distribution Practices in 30 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Freight transport companies are gathering here.
In addition to promoting best practices for total quality across the network, Pharmafreight offers international partner training (e.g. GDP training) and a global sales call program to strengthen collaboration among network partners. We guarantee consistent quality throughout.
“Mach2 and our Pharmafreight teammates will continue to provide our customers with consistent, high-quality service as we prepare for full integration with AIT in 2024,” said Hughes. “This acquisition is a great opportunity for us to leverage AIT’s vast global network and enhance our customer solutions.”
“We are pleased to welcome our Mach2 and Pharmafreight teammates to our company,” said Keith Tolan, President and Chief Operating Officer of AIT. “We believe their wealth of expertise will strengthen our world-class life sciences division. We look forward to improving our cold chain services, especially for our European customers.”
