S&P Global to Acquire ORBCOMM’s AIS Business, Expanding Maritime and Supply Chain Intelligence

S&P Global  announced a definitive agreement to acquire the Automatic Identification System (AIS) data services business of ORBCOMM, a recognized leader in satellite-based vessel tracking technologies. This strategic acquisition enhances S&P Global’s capabilities in maritime and supply chain intelligence, delivering enriched visibility and actionable insights for commercial and government stakeholders around the globe.

ORBCOMM’s AIS business, active since 2004, delivers high-quality, proprietary vessel tracking data by combining both satellite and terrestrial coverage. The technology supports a broad range of use cases—from global supply chain visibility and maritime safety to environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and surveillance. Once finalized, the AIS data services will become part of the S&P Global Market Intelligence division.

“With the uncertainties surrounding global markets and supply chains, this strategic acquisition underscores our commitment to investing in differentiated data and solutions that can help our customers navigate the volatility,” said Whit McGraw, Head of Risk & Valuations Services at S&P Global Market Intelligence. “ORBCOMM’s AIS data services business offers cutting-edge technology and coverage that strengthens our energy transition and maritime supply chain offering, giving us ample opportunity to invest in new product innovations.”
