OMRON and KST Technologies Partners to Develop LoRa Module for Weather Sensor

OMRON Electronic Components has announced a strategic partnership with KS Technologies (KST) for the design of an add-on Long Range (LoRa) communication module for its Weather Sensor. This partnership provides a cost-effective solution for long-distance and low-power communication.

The partnership combines OMRON’s established sensing technology with KST’s extensive knowledge of LoRa connectivity and networks. Through its choice of KST as a technology partner, OMRON is able to accelerate its own ability to seamlessly connect sensors in the field to LoRa networks.

“By integrating LoRa technology into our Weather Sensor, we are enabling customers to collect and share environmental data more efficiently than ever before,” said Cary Horan, business development manager at OMRON Electronics Components. “Partnering with KST strengthens our ability to deliver flexible, scalable connectivity solutions across multiple industries-from energy management to smart cities and precision agriculture-helping organizations make smarter, more sustainable decisions.”

The Weather Sensor is intended to be used for a variety of operational and monitoring scenarios with the addition of the new LoRa communication module, including:

Power and energy management – Enables energy firms to make use of localized weather data to optimize energy management and offer early warnings to prevent the possibility of weather-related damage.

Smart city infrastructure – Allows for real-time weather observation in a smart city, and cities can build a comprehensive sensor network that can be combined with the existing infrastructure.

Agriculture and precision farming – Offers local weather information to help with irrigation, harvest, and long-term crop health strategies.

Together, OMRON and KST are making it easier for organizations to be better prepared for and respond to extreme and ever-changing weather conditions. Through the provision of accurate spot-level environmental information via low-cost, long-range wireless connectivity, the collaboration makes it possible for organizations to make smarter resource decisions, assess weather risks more accurately, and plan ahead for ever-changing environmental and sustainability issues.
