Lenovo Harnesses AI & Robotics for Smarter Retail

Lenovo introduced three new retail solutions that combine the best of robotics and artificial intelligence technologies. All of these solutions, first unveiled at NRF 2025 in New York City, have been field-tested and proven in commercial environments.

Lenovo Retail Content Management Services enable retailers to create, schedule and display digital content on screens throughout the store. This allows for more streamlined management of multimedia content, real-time updates and targeted messaging, which in turn generates more attention and interest and ultimately increases sales. The entire solution includes all required hardware and software components and can be deployed, maintained and managed across a variety of locations worldwide.

A leading food and beverage chain is already using this content management service in over 100 stores and has achieved significant cost savings through dynamically managed advertising campaigns, reduced consumption of paper marketing materials and reduced staffing to manage both campaigns and devices.

Lenovo Retail Robotics at Yunji provides automated and independent delivery of groceries, guest items, room services and small packages to customers in hotels and shopping malls. By integrating software and services into modular robots, this solution aims to increase customer satisfaction, improve logistics efficiency and enable smarter resource management.

This is an advancement over traditional retail robots in three ways: First, this modular design of the robot allows it to be easily adapted to a variety of applications – unlike other robots that are only designed to perform a single task. Second, AI, navigation and image recognition capabilities enable high-quality interactions with customers, which, combined with reduced delivery times, increases customer satisfaction. Third, this solution collects data as it works, enabling an AI-powered feedback loop that can be integrated into the supply chain, customer service and sales enablement decision-making platforms.

The robotics solution, launched in partnership with Yunji Technology , has been proven in real-world environments. For example, it handled more than 90% of all guest requests and takeout services in a 400-room hotel, resulting in significant staff and time savings while increasing revenue by 20%. Yunji’s robotics solutions are also currently being implemented in more than 30,000 hotels, including those of Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Huazhu Group, InterContinental Hotels Group, Jinjiang Group and Marriott Hotels & Resorts.

“There is a lot of hype around AI and other technologies today, but examples of their use in practical solutions that deliver real, measurable business results are far rarer,” said Lawrence Yu, General Manager of Global Retail Solutions at Lenovo. “Today’s retailers have never faced greater challenges and have never been more dependent on technology to work for them. Lenovo’s track record in retail, where the company works with some of the world’s largest, well-known retailers, clearly demonstrates our ability to design, implement and manage cutting-edge retail and hospitality solutions with low capital costs and high reliability.”

Tackling the AI Challenge in Retail

The safe and responsible use of complex IT solutions such as AI while demonstrably maximizing return on investment remains a major challenge for companies in the retail sector.

Lenovo AI Fast Start addresses this challenge by helping retailers demonstrate the business value of use cases on personal AI, enterprise AI, and public AI platforms in a matter of weeks. This solution provides access to AI resources, experts, and partners who help retailers quickly build a use case-ready generative AI solution using their own data, securely, and customized to their specific needs, significantly accelerating progress to full implementation.
