ContourGlobal’s first renewable energy plant in the US goes into operation in Colorado

ContourGlobal announced the commissioning of Black Hollow Sun I (BHS I), a 185 MWp photovoltaic plant located near Severance, Colorado.

BHS I is ContourGlobal’s first commissioned renewable energy facility in the United States and the first phase of the Black Hollow Sun complex, which will also include BHS II (139 MWp). Upon completion in 2026, the energy complex will have a total capacity of 324 MWp, making it the largest solar project in Northern Colorado and Platte River’s largest contracted solar facility.

Once fully operational, the plant will produce approximately 608 GWh of clean energy annually, which will be delivered to the Platte River Power Authority, the municipal utility serving Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, and Longmont. That’s enough clean electricity to power more than 73,000 households in Northern Colorado while saving nearly 450,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually .

This milestone was a highlight of ContourGlobal‘s 20th anniversary celebrations and underscores both the company’s US origins two decades ago and its commitment to becoming a predominantly renewable energy independent power producer (IPP) through further relevant investments in the US.

The commissioning of Black Hollow Sun I is a pivotal moment for ContourGlobal, as it is our first renewable energy facility in the U.S. to reach operating status. This is especially significant as we are celebrating our 20th anniversary since the company’s founding in the U.S. ,” commented Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of ContourGlobal.” This project, along with Black Hollow Sun II, scheduled for completion in late 2026, exemplifies our strategy to deliver clean and reliable energy while reinforcing our commitment to local communities and partners like the Platte River Power Authority.”

ContourGlobal’s commitment to the US energy supply

ContourGlobal, with its 20-year presence in the U.S. energy sector, is deploying U.S.-made solar modules from its partner Qcells, which is also providing its integrated EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) solutions for this project.

With the completion of BHS I, ContourGlobal adds 185 MWp of new renewable capacity to its overall portfolio in the United States. The company now has a total capacity of 2.8 GW of operating, under construction, or in late-stage development .

The company’s current operating portfolio (1.5 GW) also includes a portfolio of 10 thermal power plants in California, New Mexico and Texas, as well as a light oil power plant in Connecticut.

ContourGlobal ‘s planned renewable energy capacity in the US includes an additional 1 GW of solar PV and 0.3 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at various stages of development, from late-stage development to advanced construction.
