Metamagnetics Announces Launch of Self-Biased Circulators

Metamagnetics, a rapidly growing defensetech startup developing advanced RF solutions for national security and mission-critical applications, has unveiled its Self-Biased Circulators, a new line of RF mm-wave circulator and isolator components that boast excellent performance in a small volumetric package, and do not require a rare earth-based magnet. The Self-Biased Circulator products deliver sustainable, high-reliability performance across advanced military RF systems and have a 100% US Supply Chain.

Unlike circulators and isolators currently in use that require rare earth-based magnets, Metamagnetics’ Self-Biased Circulators do not require a permanent magnet and are not dependent on China-sourced rare-earth materials. China’s dominance of rare-earth supply chains is a significant and increasing concern for US economic and national security.

Metamagnetics’ Self-Biased Circulators are critical to many Aerospace and Defense applications and are available from Ka band and above in microstrip form. The devices have a footprint of approximately 0.100-inch x 0.110-inch x 0.010-inch, and are more than 90% smaller in volume and mass compared to conventional products that utilize rare earth-based bias magnets. Metamagnetics’ Self-Biased Circulators have survived excessive shock and vibration environments at levels greater than 50,000 g-forces, without any compromise in performance.
