Glytec Simplifies Glycemic Management for Clinicians and Pharmacists with New Glucommander® Enhancements

Innovations Leverage Practitioner Feedback and Field Testing to Streamline Workflows, Speed Time to Value and Deliver Enhanced EHR Support while Prioritizing Patient Safety.

Glytec, the only provider of cloud-based insulin management software across the continuum of care, unveiled the latest version of its Glucommander® insulin dosing software that makes it easier for providers, nurses and pharmacists to offer best practice, personalized care. These innovations help streamline workflows, improve patient outcomes and offer tighter support for the industry’s top electronic health record (EHR) systems. They also closely follow the next evolution of GlucoMetrics, which Glytec unveiled this spring to provide new insights and analytics that help hospitals improve glycemic management and readiness for impending CMS measures related to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

More than 300 hospitals nationwide trust Glytec’s eGlycemic Management System (eGMS) to ensure safe and effective glycemic management for their patients. The company’s eGMS centers on Glucommander – the only cloud-based, FDA-cleared software designed to provide personalized IV and SubQ insulin dosing for patients living with and without diabetes. Developed through extensive feedback and close collaboration with customers, Glucommander 3.5.3.0 software is easier to use and more intuitive to help health systems prioritize and improve patient safety.

“Glytec is leading the way to a future where every hospital across the country provides the highest quality glycemic care possible,” said Jordan Messler, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Glytec. “We are working towards making that vision a reality by establishing Glucommander as the standard of care for insulin dosing through innovation, continuous improvement, collaboration and clinical excellence. Since our inception, we have worked closely with customers and partners to understand workflows in busy hospitals and ensure our tools fit seamlessly to enhance operations and support improved patient outcomes. Today’s release is an important milestone in our journey and paves the way for even greater things to come.”

With the new updates, Glytec strengthens its commitment to innovation and drives faster time to value for:

  • Providers with enhanced order flexibility. Aligning the orders integration more closely with clinical best practice means ordering is easier, reducing the learning curve for new providers and decreasing the risk of a patient starting with the wrong parameters.
  • Nurses with improved IV and SubQ transition workflows. Front-line nurses will have easier, at-a-glance access to information needed for a safer transition of patients from IV to SubQ insulin.
  • Pharmacists with the availability of D10W. Hospital pharmacists have expanded medication options available to them to treat hypoglycemia in the rare instances when it occurs and the ability to be nimble in face of D50W shortages. Glytec is also updating its oral carbohydrate recommendations for treating cases of severe hypoglycemia from 15 grams to 30 grams, based on the results of its recent research.

To continue enabling a seamless clinical workflow through integration with the industry’s leading EHRs, Glucommander 3.5.3.0 supports Epic’s latest Hyperspace client, which uses a new web-based framework. The latest version of Glucommander is now available on Connection Hub.

“EHR are the lifeblood of health systems, and the tighter integration with leading EHR providers is a testament to the work our technical experts have accomplished,” said John Downey, Chief Commercial Officer at Glytec. “When it comes to glycemic management, build-it-yourself calculators can no longer keep up with the pace of innovation or deliver patient-specific decision support that a high-alert medication like insulin requires. Health systems need research-driven software backed by hundreds of real-world implementations and continuous innovation – and that’s what Glytec delivers. Recent enhancements to both Glucommander and GlucoMetrics are a testament to our drive towards continuous innovation and providing hospitals with a truly comprehensive glycemic management solution.”
