Magna Introduces DHD REX Hybrid Drive for EV Efficiency

Magna has broadened its electrification portfolio through DHD REX, a next-gen dedicated hybrid drive system specially designed for range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs). The system, which was architectured to mimic a completely electric driving experience, offers torque on-demand, low noise, and uninterrupted range extension – a combination that will allow car makers to elevate the performance and at the same time not lose the practicality aspect.

Based on a modular, single-motor layout, DHD REX aims at being easy to integrate and adaptable which will give vehicle manufacturers the ability to customize the system according to different regulatory requirements, conditions of infrastructure, and changing needs of consumers worldwide.

As the automotive industry moves forward with the electrification drive, there is a growing need for OEMs to provide the benefits of electric vehicle performance with range versatility. Keeping this challenge in mind, DHD REX offers a tried-and-tested multi-mode system that provides for pure electric driving, energy generation, and also offers the option for a parallel hybrid mode.

Magna’s approach to electrification is centered on giving our customers flexible pathways forward,” said Diba Ilunga, President Magna Powertrain. “DHD REX reflects our commitment to adaptable, customer-focused solutions that support a wide range of performance and market expectations.”

Positioned as a complementary solution to Magna’s DHD Duo—its dual e-motor dedicated hybrid drive already in series production-DHD REX has been developed from the ground up to deliver scalable efficiency and integration versatility. Its streamlined single-motor design reduces system complexity and cost, while enabling smoother vehicle dynamics across diverse driving conditions.

With this latest innovation, Magna reinforces its commitment to supporting automakers with advanced hybrid solutions that accelerate electrification while meeting real-world demands for performance, efficiency, and adaptability.
