Geely Auto Group has officially opened the Geely Safety Centre, recognized as the world’s largest and most advanced automotive safety testing facility, marking a significant milestone in global vehicle safety innovation and standards. The centre spans approximately 45,000 m² and represents an initial investment of over 2 billion RMB, designed to accelerate safety technology development and elevate safety benchmarks across the industry by covering a comprehensive array of tests from traditional high-speed crash evaluations and pedestrian protection to advanced active safety simulations, new energy powertrain safety, cybersecurity, and even health-related safety assessments, underpinned by Geely’s “comprehensive safety” strategy for the intelligent vehicle era. The facility extends safety assessment beyond vehicles and occupants to include human and environmental health aspects, featuring specialized teams such as the “Golden Nose” unit for volatile material and odor detection, and has already set five new Guinness World Records, including the largest automotive safety laboratory (81,930.745 m²), longest indoor crash test track (293.39 m), largest altitude-climate adjustable wind tunnel facility (28,536.224 m²), largest arbitrary-angle (0–180°) crash test zone (12,709.293 m²), and most diverse testing capabilities (27 types) in a single safety centre.

The centre embodies best practices in global safety development by integrating insights from leading safety institutions and advancing Geely’s R&D capabilities, reinforced through collaborations with entities such as CATARC and Tsinghua University, and the joint release of a White Paper on intelligent vehicle safety development efforts that collectively reflect Geely’s commitment to driving safety innovation and raising industry-wide benchmarks in intelligent mobility. Highlighting the company’s long-term investment in safety, Geely has spent over 250 billion RMB on R&D over the past decade with safety as a core focus, enabling it to deliver safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions for users worldwide. Jerry Gan, CEO of Geely Auto Group, emphasized that “Safety has always been Geely Auto Group’s top priority over the past 30 years,” and that the centre opens “a new chapter for safety in the age of intelligent vehicles.” Li Chuanhai, Vice President and Head of Geely Research Institute, added that the global transformation toward electrified and intelligent vehicles “requires new and higher standards of safety…accelerates the innovation of safety together with the collaborative efforts of safety technology leaders in the world.”
