BorgWarner, a global leader in innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, has secured a significant contract with a leading North American original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to deliver its advanced 400V SW130 (S-wind) eMotor for integration into a new line of hybrid full-sized trucks and sport utility vehicles. Production under this agreement is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2028, further expanding the global reach of BorgWarner’s high-voltage, high-output electric motor technology.
“BorgWarner has been closely collaborating with this OEM, providing continuous, valuable feedback to develop an S-wind eMotor solution that meets specific application requirements,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “This business agreement is a direct reflection of our engineering team’s technical expertise, from writing specifications for design with packaging constraints to manufacturing to implementation. We are looking forward to deepening our relationship with this highly reputable OEM.”

The SW130 eMotor leverages BorgWarner’s proprietary S-wind technology, designed as a high-voltage alternator replacement that offers exceptional power density and performance in a compact footprint. Featuring a continuous rectangular-formed winding, the motor improves overall efficiency while reducing system complexity. Unlike conventional hairpin winding methods, S-wind technology employs radial wire insertion, enabling more efficient material usage and cutting welding points by over 90%. These benefits contribute to greater scalability, lower production costs, and tighter packaging—ideal for demanding hybrid applications.
With a 130mm stator diameter and 65mm stack length, the SW130 is purpose-built for hybrid powertrains, delivering optimized peak torque while minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH)-a critical factor in ensuring a refined driving experience in next-generation vehicles.
