Sidus Space Partners with Simera Sense on Satellite Earth Observation

Sidus Space, Inc., a dynamically developing space and defense technology company focused on commercial satellite design, manufacture, launch, and data collection, announced it has signed an MOU with Simera Sense, one of the world’s leaders in providing optical payload data analytics for satellite-based Earth observation. Setting the stage for new collaboration between Sidus Space and Simera Sense, the deal signals the possibility of cutting-edge hyperspectral imaging systems undertaking intelligent Earth observation missions featuring onboard data processing capabilities. These capabilities would enable commercially relevant intelligence-based Earth observation missions for both government and private organizations.

Through a combination of the advanced image processing techniques offered by Simera Sense, the integrated FeatherEdge hardware provided by Sidus, and the Cielo AI software package, the resulting system will offer the potential to process data directly from space. This type of system is expected to minimize the need for ground-based processing solutions and timing.

“Partnering with Simera Sense allows us to advance hyperspectral mission capabilities by supporting intelligent processing adjacent to the data source,” said Jim Larson, Senior Vice President, AI Strategic Initiatives at Sidus Space. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to flexible, partner-driven solutions that can be adapted across a wide range of mission architectures, use cases and customer needs.”

Placing the intelligence right at the point of data collection, it grants autonomy to analytics, deploying seamlessly across multi-satellite systems and constellation-based missions. The approach directly addresses growing market demand for faster, more actionable satellite data across commercial, civil, and defense sectors in environmental monitoring, infrastructure assessment, and situational awareness by minimizing latency and optimizing downlink bandwidth usage.

The xScape family of products from Simera Sense enables small satellite operators to access high-performance compact optical payloads with an attractive price and performance curve. As the performance of optical payloads increases, however, the difficulties associated with large volumes of data and limited bandwidth will become more challenging. To address this, through advances such as near-real-time observation, event auto-detection, and flexible imaging, the partnership helps to optimize the most important information and ensure the most critical events are captured efficiently.

“Working with Sidus Space enables us to push the boundaries of what hyperspectral missions can achieve,” said Thys Cronje, Chief Commercial Officer at Simera Sense. “Our focus is on delivering exceptional image quality and reliable in-orbit operation, and integrating onboard processing and analytics unlocks a new level of insight. This partnership enables a hyperspectral solution that doesn’t just capture data; it transforms it into actionable value the moment it’s collected.”

The collaboration further strengthens Sidus Space’s strategy to move up the Earth observation value chain—from data acquisition to intelligence-driven insights—while expanding long-term revenue opportunities across commercial, civil, defense, and international markets as global demand accelerates for faster, operationally relevant information from space.
