Safran and AWS Deepen Strategic Collaboration to Drive Aeronautics Innovation with Cloud and Generative AI

Safran, a global leader in aeronautics, defense, and space, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon, have announced an expanded strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating Safran’s innovation agenda and advancing its digital transformation initiatives. This partnership supports Safran’s long-term commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable aviation-specifically focusing on decarbonization, enhanced supply chain performance, and scalable digital solutions.

Accelerating Digital Transformation Across the Enterprise

Since naming AWS its primary cloud provider in 2021, Safran has made significant progress in modernizing its IT infrastructure and operations. AWS has enabled the company to enhance agility, boost efficiency, and maintain the highest levels of security across its global operations.

Safran is now entering a new multi-year phase of digital transformation, focused on enterprise-wide application migration to AWS, the rollout of advanced data platforms leveraging Amazon S3 and Amazon Redshift, and the deployment of AI-powered use cases through dedicated internal AI squads. This next phase lays the groundwork for a data-first strategy across all business units, empowering teams to unlock insights, streamline operations, and accelerate innovation.

Unlocking Innovation Through Generative AI

A core focus of this transformation is the adoption of generative artificial intelligence to fuel innovation across Safran’s diverse business areas. By leveraging Amazon Bedrock, which provides secure access to leading foundation models from Meta, Mistral AI, Anthropic, and Amazon, Safran is deploying generative AI in a controlled and secure manner—ensuring data privacy while harnessing the full potential of these emerging technologies.

Initial projects are already in motion across Engineering, Manufacturing, Support, and Services, delivering measurable improvements in operational efficiency. Building on this momentum, Safran is now scaling its efforts with a second wave of nearly 20 generative AI projects aimed at further optimizing business functions and enabling intelligent automation.

“The way Safran is adopting generative AI perfectly illustrates how these advanced technologies can transform the aeronautics industry,” emphasizes Julien Groues, Managing Director of AWS France. “By combining Safran‘s business expertise with AWS’s cloud and AI capabilities, we are paving the way for innovations that will redefine aviation performance and safety standards.”
