Teledyne FLIR Defense Unveils Black Recon Autonomous Micro-Drone System for Persistent ISR

Teledyne FLIR Defense has unveiled Black Recon™, a new autonomously launched micro-drone system designed to provide continuous, untethered reconnaissance for military vehicles and fixed installations. Introduced at Eurosatory. The system allows the operator to deploy, guide, retrieve, and re-charge the drones from their vehicle without getting out of their safe place to increase force protection as well as speed up the decision-making process. Specifically designed for vehicle mounting, Black Recon ensures persistent ISR capabilities by switching the UAVs for performing RSTA operations. “Black Recon represents a major step forward in integrated reconnaissance for ground forces,” said Dr. JihFen Lei, President of Teledyne Defense and Aerospace Group and Senior Vice President of Teledyne Technologies. “By bringing autonomous launch, recovery, and recharging directly to the vehicle, we give operators persistent situational awareness, faster access to actionable intelligence, and greater protection in high-tempo missions.”

Each UAV weighs less than 450 grams, offers flight times of 50 to 60 minutes, reaches speeds of up to 25 m/s, and incorporates advanced sensing capabilities derived from Teledyne FLIR Defense’s nano-UAS portfolio. Designed to operate even in GPS-jammed or spoofed environments, the system supports continuous target tracking and rapid threat detection. Beyond military applications, Black Recon’s rugged, network-enabled architecture also supports law enforcement, border security, critical infrastructure monitoring, and maritime patrol missions, providing reliable situational awareness in remote and challenging environments.
