Panasonic Automotive Systems Joins SOAFEE Governing Body, Strengthening Global SDV Standardization Leadership

Panasonic Automotive Systems, announced its appointment to the Governing Body of SOAFEE (Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge), which serves as the global board dedicated to driving Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) advancement. This recognition reflects the company’s contributions to SDV technology evolution, and the company commits to further strengthening its initiatives to drive the advancement and standardization of SDV technology.

Since joining SOAFEE as a Technical Steering Committee (TSC) member in 2022, PAS has demonstrated strong leadership in Open-Source Software (OSS) standardization efforts, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

Specifically, PAS has developed VirtIO-based solutions—Unified HMI and Virtual SkipGen—which echo SOAFEE’s vision of “hardware-agnostic software”. These solutions have significantly contributed to the promotion of OSS solutions that enable decoupled development of software from hardware in automotive systems, including next-generation cockpits. The company’s solutions have already been adopted as SOAFEE blueprints, enabling broader utilization and collaboration for the future, and are expected to further accelerate the evolution of automotive software development.

In November 2024, PAS assumed leadership of the newly established SOAFEE APAC Regional Hub, officially launching operations in May 2025. This initiative aims to further invigorate SOAFEE activities for members in the Asia-Pacific region, who represent a significant portion of SOAFEE’s global membership.

In recognition of its leadership in driving the automotive industry’s SDV transformation, PAS has become the ninth Governing Body member among SOAFEE’s current membership of over 150 companies.

Masashige Mizuyama, Executive Vice President and CTO of Panasonic Automotive Systems, commented, “We fully share the vision that SOAFEE is aiming to develop a seamless cloud-native environment to enable fast and continuous deliveries to automotive products and believe that device virtualization will play a significant role in achieving it. By acting as a Governing Body Member and leading the activities in SOAFEE APAC Regional Hub, we are looking forward to collaboratively contributing to the evolution of the automotive industry and to actualizing a true Software Defined Vehicle.”
