Wind River unveils new dimensions of machine intelligence with AI-driven edge applications at NVIDIA GTC

Wind River a global leader in software for mission-critical intelligent systems, announced that it is deploying Wind River Linux with the NVIDIA Jetson™ platform for advanced generative will demonstrate AI applications at NVIDIA GTC , a global AI conference March 18-21 at the San Jose Convention Center.

In the demonstration, the combination of Yocto Project-based Wind River Linux and NVIDIA Jetson Orin™ provides a groundbreaking, CUDA- optimized solution for real-time object detection in dashcam videos. This can significantly improve the safety and efficiency of urban mobility by providing a high level of precision for AI-driven object identification on the road.

This commercially supported Yocto Project-based Linux solution can be used for any AI application with data models on the NVIDIA Jetson across multiple mission-critical applications, such as: B. Speech or gesture recognition when using robotics, factory security, intelligent machines or drone applications.

“The potential for generative AI to transform industries and improve everyday life is immense. “Combining NVIDIA technology with the Yocto Project’s open source Linux enables next-generation AI,” said Paul Miller, Chief Technology Officer at Wind River. “The combination of Wind River and NVIDIA technology can be transformative, enabling developers to quickly innovate in AI and machine learning and help develop smarter, more secure applications. We are excited to showcase this groundbreaking technology at NVIDIA GTC.”

By integrating advanced video processing algorithms and deep learning expertise, the robust and scalable solution improves the accuracy and speed of object detection. Using the Linux environment based on the Yocto project, the solution provides unprecedented customization and control tailored to the unique requirements of AI for dashcam use cases. The demonstration showed a 25% improvement in compute efficiency and application performance in the Yocto Project-based environment compared to other previously tested Linux configurations, leveraging CUDA optimizations.

To thoroughly evaluate the capabilities of the AI-driven object detection system, the test used custom input videos provided by users from their personal dashcams. This approach made it possible to evaluate the performance of the system in real-world scenarios and ensured that the solution was tested in the unpredictable and diverse conditions of the real world.

The AI model successfully identifies and classifies various elements in a real traffic situation, including multiple cars (with correspondingly different confidence levels) and a pedestrian. The most important results of the image analysis include:

  • Accuracy in complex environments : The system demonstrates high accuracy and detects vehicles and pedestrians with a high level of reliability, despite the challenges presented by a busy street.
  • Real-time performance : The AI model processes the video stream efficiently and maintains a high frame rate (188.8 FPS), which is crucial for real-time applications. This performance demonstrates the model’s potential for integration into active, advanced driver assistance systems.
  • Practical application : Using footage from a user’s dashcam validates the system’s effectiveness in a real-world context – a step forward in ensuring the technology can be used reliably in everyday scenarios.

Additionally, the combination of Wind River Linux and Jetson will be demonstrated on Yaskawa’s NVIDIA GTC to show an industrial robot that uses AI technology to make decisions and automate movements in unstructured environments.

As a platform for edge AI, embedded and robotics applications, NVIDIA Jetson offers scalable software, a modern AI stack, production-ready ROS packages and application-specific AI workflows. It can share AI software and cloud-native workflows while providing the energy-efficient performance needed to build software-defined autonomous machines and breakthrough edge AI solutions.

As the embedded industry’s leading and most advanced Linux platform1, Wind River Linux helps teams develop, deploy and operate robust, reliable and secure embedded solutions running on a purpose-built Linux operating system. Wind River Linux provides a high level of stability and security to meet the high-performance requirements of mission-critical applications.
