Identiv and collectID pave the way for Sport Team Fan engagement

Identiv, Inc., a global leader in digital security and identification for the Internet of Things (IoT), on Wednesday, September 6, along with the Sports tech company collectID is hosting a webinar. The topic is the future of fan engagement through phygital merchandise. Industry-leading experts from Identiv and collectID discuss the importance of phygital merchandise for the sports world. It is a synergistic combination of collectID’s blockchain technology and Identiv’s near-field communication (NFC) tags.

Phygital Merchandise adds a digital dimension to fan merchandise like shirts and scarves. These innovative products deepen the bond between teams and their fans, delivering multiple benefits through personalized experiences that keep fans engaged. For this purpose, Identiv produces, encrypts and maintains NFC tags for the textiles, which are incorporated into each product and there connect the physical with the digital world. Once the tag is attached, collectID’s advanced blockchain technology unlocks the product’s unique digital ID, which is then authenticated by a non-exchangeable token (NFT), giving fans access to exclusive content and other special features.

“Phygital merchandise will become an important vehicle for teams to stay connected with their most passionate fans. We look forward to discussing the future of fan engagement using digitized merchandise with our partner collectID,” said Amir Khoshniyati, VP and GM IoT, Identiv.

For the 2023-24 season, several European football clubs have partnered with collectID to develop phygital merchandise. These include a digitized scarf for season ticket holders from FC St. Gallen 1879 , the home jersey of Karlsruher SC and the home and away jerseys of FC Zürich, BSCYB and 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Beyond the world of football, other partners are also interested in collectID’s projects. These include NHL’s Nashville Predators and the well-known McLaren Racing.

David Geisser, co-founder of collectID, added: “Phygital Engagement is game-changing how teams engage with their most loyal fans. We look forward to partnering with Identiv to showcase the many benefits that digitized merchandise offers to both teams and fans.”
