Amerigroup Iowa, a wholly owned subsidiary of Elevance Health, announced that Teresa Hursey has been named president of the health plan, a leading managed care provider of health benefits for Iowa residents enrolled in the state’s Medicaid program, Iowa Health Link. Iowa Health Link currently provides high-quality healthcare programs and services to more than 800,000 Iowans, including children, pregnant women, caretaker relatives of dependent children, older adults, and adults with disabilities.
In her new role, Hursey is responsible for all aspects of Amerigroup’s operations across the state, ensuring its more than 280,000 members receive access to innovative, high-quality healthcare and support services. She will also lead efforts to strengthen relationships in the community with state leaders, providers, and other key stakeholders.
“Teresa brings a deep knowledge of the healthcare industry with a focus on Medicaid health plan operations especially for those members needing long term services and supports,” said Dr. Barsam Kasravi, President of Elevance Health’s Medicaid West Region. “Teresa is dedicated to driving growth and innovation through a simpler healthcare experience that empowers members to actively shape their health. We look forward to her leadership as we fulfill our mission of improving the lives and communities we serve across Iowa.”
Hursey has more than 30 years of experience in both public and private sector roles focused on healthcare including State Medicaid Director in Illinois and Vice President of Finance at the Illinois Hospital Association. Most recently, Hursey served as Amerigroup New Jersey President where she was responsible for Medicaid growth strategies and development centered on health plan retention and operations.
“Amerigroup Iowa thrives on the connection between our associates and the members we serve through our longstanding local commitment as a trusted health partner,” said Hursey. “I look forward to continuing Amerigroup’s progress to address integrated whole person health while making a meaningful difference for the people we serve — by connecting them to the care, support, and resources they need. We will continue to work with our state partners, members, providers, advocates, legislators, and community organizations to create equitable access to high-quality services that promote dignity, close gaps in care, and improve whole person health.”
Hursey is a graduate of Drury College in Springfield, Missouri where she earned a degree in accounting.
Hursey succeeds Jeffrey Jones, who recently was named Vice President, Medicare Duals Strategy for Amerigroup’s parent company, Elevance Health.
