Luminary Launches Advanced Physics AI for Military Power

Luminary Cloud, the top Physics AI platform, has launched three new AI models for defense. These models aim to speed up U.S. defense tech development and support American leadership in technology. The models-SHIFT-CCA (Collaborative Combat Aircraft), SHIFT-Submarine, and SHIFT-Pump-offer secure, U.S.-controlled Physics AI for the Department of War (DoW) in air, sea, and land operations.

U.S. defense leaders emphasize that speed, sovereignty, and control over AI systems are key for future battlefield success. Meanwhile, global competitors are quickly boosting their AI investments. The White House has launched the Genesis Mission. This mission aims to boost AI-driven scientific discovery and enhance national security innovation. Physics AI makes fast, accurate predictions about real-world performance. It reduces engineering analysis time from hours to just seconds. This enables defense contractors and system designers to explore more design options, iterate swiftly, and make confident decisions—without relying on foreign or unsecured AI infrastructure.

The newly introduced defense models were developed using Luminary’s Physics AI Factory, a secure, end-to-end, U.S.-based platform engineered to design, train, and deploy Physics AI models within trusted environments. The factory supports sovereign AI development by unifying GPU-native physics simulation, large-scale synthetic data generation, AI training, and deployment into a single, automated pipeline.

These releases build on Luminary’s previously launched SHIFT-SUV and SHIFT-Wing models for automotive and aerospace use cases. SHIFT is a growing family of Physics AI models that provides access to high-quality datasets and pretrained models tailored for complex engineering challenges across industries.

Defense applications enabled by the new Physics AI models include:

SHIFT-CCA: Collaborative Combat Aircraft is a U.S. Air Force program. It focuses on AI-driven, autonomous drones that collaborate with crewed fighter jets. This model optimizes the aerodynamics of CCA prototypes. It improves fuel efficiency, extends mission endurance, and enables advanced collaborative maneuvering.

SHIFT-Submarine: Submarines—both crewed and autonomous—are increasingly critical to national security operations. This model evaluates hydrodynamic efficiency and performance while accounting for internal hardware constraints such as battery capacity, directly influencing mission range and duration.

SHIFT-Pump: Pumps and compressors are essential across defense and civilian infrastructure, supporting aerospace thermal management, construction, ground defense applications like flood response and firefighting, as well as clean water delivery and energy production. This model enables optimization of pump designs for pressure, flow, and efficiency.

All three models were developed entirely from the ground up, beginning with high-quality synthetic training data generation. Each dataset leveraged Luminary’s GPU-native physics simulators to run high-fidelity simulations across thousands of design variations. The programs span multiple physics domains, including high-speed external aerodynamics for SHIFT-CCA, fully submerged incompressible hydrodynamics for SHIFT-Submarine, and compressible rotating turbomachinery for SHIFT-Pump. Luminary’s Physics AI Factory automated the full workflow—from data generation through model training, deployment, and inference.

“If the DoW wants to outpace adversaries, Physics AI is not optional – it is a mission-critical necessity. Platforms like Luminary are essential for compressing design timelines and securing the technological edge,” — Juan Alonso, CTO & Co-Founder, Luminary Cloud

“The U.S. Defense Industrial Base is competing against adversaries operating at the frontier of AI and adopting Physics AI will be a decisive advantage. The Pentagon faces urgent needs across air, land and sea, and we purpose-built these new AI models specifically to meet those demands. From Collaborative Combat Aircraft drones to submarines and pump systems, Luminary is helping deliver the tools the country needs to design modern systems, faster and more effectively.”
